Ask-Wi.Com's™ On-Line Wireless Workshop
"Designing and Deploying Broadband Wireless WANs "

Partnered With Link Technologies, Inc

Ask-Wi.Com is pleased to announce that their Classic 1-Day Wireless Workshop is now available online. In partnership with Link Technologies, you can now enjoy the benefits of our famous wireless training in the comfort of your own home or office

Starting your own wireless ISP?

Expanding an existing WISP ?

Designing a Muni wireless network?

Deploying an outdoor wireless network for your City, State, County, Electric Utility, Independent Telco?

Learn successful wireless network design and deployment techniques from the experts.

Don't "re-invent the wheel". Learn to avoid the common mistakes that new WISPs often make.

Learn how to detect and avoid wireless "noise" so you can maximize throughput and reliability.

Learn how trees, hills and obstructions affect your network performance - and what to do about it.

Learn about dBs and why they are so important.

Learn the four steps to successful use of any spectrum analyzer.

Since 2001, Ask-Wi.Com has trained over 2500 people across the United States and Canada.

Our Classic 1-Day Workshop™ is the world's first and only WISP workshop that addresses WISP design and deployment issues in a learning environment that is:
•Vendor-Neutral
(no sales people selling equipment; in fact, we don't sell equipment)
•Real-World Knowledgeable (48 years of wireless experience)
•Supportive, Interactive, and Information-Sharing

In response to popular demand, we have introduced a new 2-day hands-on expanded workshop.

1. Vendor Neutrality - We do not sell wireless equipment therefore we train you without pressuring you to purchase a specific brand of wireless equipment. We'll help you learn the "pros" and the "cons" about the different equipment brands so you'll be able to choose equipment based on your actual needs. We'll show you how to look beyond the advertising "hype" so you can choose wireless equipment based on your business goals, your wireless environment, and your budget.

2. Unique, Real-World Knowledge- We've been designing, building, troubleshooting and optimizing broadband wireless networks since 1993. Our workshop is based on lessons learned from working with over 1000 real-world wireless client companies since 1993 on thousands of broadband wireless projects. (We believe that we are the longest existing full-time broadband wireless design/consulting/training company in the broadband wireless industry) Did we mention that we "wrote the handbook" for the industry?

We'll teach you to identify and to solve the difficult real-world problems (Interference, for example) that other "workshops" never even mention!

3. Interactive - Our workshops are NOT a boring one-way lecture. They are two-way interactive learning experiences. Bring your questions and ask them! (We don't holler at you and make you feel dumb like some other wireless workshops do). We want you to ask questions and share the answers and insights with others! You'll leave with the knowledge and the confidence that you need to succeed in the wireless business. No other workshops can provide this - they just don't have our patience, our experience, and our dedication.

4. Cost-Effective, On-Site Delivery - We'll bring our workshops on-site to your company where you'll save on the travel time, transportation costs, meal costs, and lodging costs for your employees.

5. Follow-Up Assistance - After your workshop session, you and your staff receive no-charge consulting support over the phone.

You'll benefit if you're a...

WISP-
Deploy wireless networks that are reliable, expandable and interference-free. Build employee competence quickly. Maximize reliability, profits and customer loyalty. Avoid the time-wasting mistakes that new WISPs often make.

WIRELESS TECHNICIAN OR ENGINEER-
Learn wireless principles, learn to avoid interference, and learn to design and install wireless networks right the first time.

EQUIPMENT MANUFACTURER-
Learn the real-world challenges that WISPs face. Learn the features that they need in their wireless equipment.

MARKETING SPECIALIST-
Understand the wireless principles that underlie successful WISP operation. Learn to prepare accurate and error-free marketing material. Learn to properly differentiate your products from other competing products.

CONSULTANT -
Maximize your WISP knowledge so you can assist your clients to achieve maximum throughput, reliability, scaleability, and profitability.

STUDENT -
Update your knowledge of current wireless Internet technology. Obtain insights into the direction that the broadband wireless Internet field is going.

INDUSTRY ANALYST OR VENTURE CAPITALIST-
Understand the broadband wireless principles and techniques that differentiate wireless service providers from each other. Learn to differentiate the WISPs that stand on solid technological ground from the WISPs that do not really have a thorough understanding of the wireless business.

Workshop Contents

NOTE:
We continually update our workshop contents to keep up with the rapidly-changing wireless ISP business. The general outline for our "Classic 1-Day Workshop"™ is listed below however, because of the interactive nature of the workshop, we cover many additional topics, including WiMAX and Mesh networking, depending on the needs and interests of our workshop attendees.

1. Introductions

Introductions and content overview.

2. The "Real World" - What is it?
Outdoor networks are not "plug and play". Understand the challenges of deploying a wireless network outdoors. Learn about the "real-world" issues like line-of-sight, fresnel zone, terrain, trees, weather, noise, and interference from other networks.

3. Fundamentals of WISP Success

Learn how to minimize cost, deliver reliable service, select equipment, manage your customers expectations, and deal with local wireless competitors. Learn what has worked for other wireless operators and what has not worked.

4. Understanding Wireless Principles
Your understanding of wireless principles is the foundation that you use when you build your wireless business. Learn about wireless propagation. Learn how to work with dBs, calculate power levels and link budgets, measure fade margin, and keep the fresnel zone clear. Understand when to use direct-sequence spread spectrum and when to use frequency-hopping spread spectrum equipment and when to use them both. Learn how to evaluate performance claims for "non-line-of-sight" (NLOS) equipment.

5.Antenna Selection and Design
Antennas are the single most important part of a wireless system because they determine your service area and at the same time, they expose you to interference. Learn antenna principles so you can select the proper antennas based on gain, beamwidth, and polarization needs. Learn about mounting height, downtilt, and diversity. .

6. The Installation Process
An efficient low-cost installation process is crucial to your success. Learn antenna mounting techniques, cable selection, waterproofing, lightning protection, tower safety, and tower leasing. Learn how to build serviceable networks and how to test and monitor your completed installations.

7. Equipment Selection
Ask questions about different equipment advantages and disadvantages. Now you will be able to apply your knowledge of wireless principles, real-world issues, installation issues, and marketing hype, to choose the best equipment for your market area, interference environment, and budget.

8. Network Design Principles
Poor network design causes many time-consuming problems. Avoid this frustration by learning effective network design principles. Learn to design sectored networks, select low-noise access point locations, reuse frequencies, manage bandwidth, build repeaters, and scale your network up to serve more users.

9. Reducing Interference and Noise
You must understand the techniques used to minimize noise and interference. Learn the causes of interference and how to apply noise-reduction techniques. Get a hands-on demonstration of how to use a spectrum analyzer to evaluate the level of noise and interference before you commit to locating your access point on a specific site.

10. Putting it All Together - WISP Success
Learn how to determine your "overselling" ratio, evaluate the profitability of selling wireless service, find skilled employees, proactively monitor your network, build customer loyalty, provide network security, interpret FCC rules, and evaluate emerging wireless technologies.

11. Industry Update
We'll update you on the latest industry trends and show you how those trends could affect your network and your business. WiMAX, mesh networking, municipal networks, 4.9 GHz, 3.6 GHz, 3G, VoIP, MIMO, smart antennas. Learn which technologies will be useful and when to expect these technologies will be available, practical, and affordable.

Notes:
Questions, answers, and suggestions are encouraged at all times.

Spectrum analyzer use and site survey training is included.

Spreadsheet tools are demonstrated and distributed.
